Press and reviews for Another Kind of Silence:

The List, 21 August 2008 - ****
"Enviromentalist writer brought to compelling life... written and performed with steely gusto and control... Director Sue Mayo's production is pitched just right and Carson's scholastic, spinsterish traits are well represented by the rusticity of the set, which is well realised by designer Sue Condie. Sound designer Joseph Young also does a great job with the fragile soundscape of birdsong..."

ThreeWeeks, 17 August 2008 - ****
"One of the richest kinds of theatrical experience is leaving a performance feeling inspired and changed; not just artistically, but politically and socially too. In this striking piece of theatre, Liz Rothschild plays environmentalist and author Rachel Carson, who took on the chemical industry in the 1950s and 60s in order to make the risks of insecticides such as DDT known. As its writer and sole performer, Rothschild gives a highly accomplished performance; intelligent, subtle and moving. It isn't necessary to know a huge amount about biology and ecology, as Carson's passion is the driving force behind this piece. With beautiful evocations of nature and issues that are undoubtedly no less crucial today, this is resonant and awareness raising, and delivered excellently."

The Times, 7 August 2008 - ***
"... Liz Rothschild's unassuming but clear one-woman play [charts] Carson's life and the development of her ideas with obvious affection and respect. Rothschild's aquiline features are not quite the same as the homely Carson's but in other respects - the wonder at the natural world, the moral courage, the restrained, but never prim, demeanour - she has obviously done her homework well. It is the simplest of presentations, not much more than a desk and a chair, but it suits its subject, who eked out a modest living in a seaside cottage in Maine for most of her life..."
- Robert Dawson Scott, theatre critic

The Scotsman, 5 August 2008 ***
"...[Rothschild] gives an adept, restrained performance."
